How qualified are the volunteers that will be preparing returns?  Volunteers are required to be certified by the IRS to do basic returns.  Training is provided by the IRS on basic tax law and the software to prepare basic returns.

Will my return be e filed?  Yes.  E filing is scheduled to begin January 15, 2010.  As long as there are no complications with your return, your return will be e filed before you leave your appointment.

What should I Bring to my Free Tax Assistance Appointment?
Please bring all available information, including:

 *Photo ID

*Social Security card or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) card or letter for yourself and each person to be claimed on your tax return

*Birth dates for every person to be claimed on your tax return

W2 or 1099 forms for all jobs held in 2009

*End of the year statements for other income you received (including bank interest, social security income, unemployment, etc.)

*End of the year retirement plan statements (401 (k), IRA, etc.)

*Child care provider name, address and tax ID number

*Record of expenses (child care, education, medical, dental, etc.)

*For a faster refund, a blank check or deposit slip, with your account number and bank routing number

How long does it take to get my refund?  Typically, with direct deposit into a checking or savings account, and no complications with the return, any eligible refunds will be deposited in approximately 8 to 14 business days.  If a check is mailed instead of direct deposit, it is typically received in approximately 20 business days.

Do I have to make and appointment?  Many sites are by appointment only. Please call the site closest to you and find out.
